A Focus on Prevention & Community Collaboration

Presented by: Arizona Hispanic Center of Excellence and the Office of Outreach and Multicultural Affairs

Goal: To foster collaboration between the medical and lay community in order to take action on disease prevention, such as supporting the availability of public spaces (i.e. parks) for physical activity promotion.

Conference Proceedings

The Office of Outreach and Multicultural Affairs and the University of Arizona’s Hispanic Center of Excellence collaborated with the Arizona Latin-American Medical Association (ALMA) and the National Hispanic Medical Association (NHMA) to host the First Annual Latino Health Promotion Summit on January 29, 2011. The goal of the Latino Health Promotion Summit was to bring together community physicians, residents, medical students, premed students, Promotoras and community members to increase awareness about the obesity epidemic and its consequences, and to co-develop community-based health promotion strategies that address the root-causes of obesity in the Latino community.
